Remember those old Family Circus cartoons that traced the kids’ wild days? Black, dotted lines tracing their path as they jumped over fences, climbed under tables, ran around the yard and, basically, up, over, in, around and through every square inch of the house?
That’s basically what Trip Tracker GPS does, only better. The free app (there are in-app features that are optional to purchase) allows users to track their travels, whether they are walking, running, boating, cycling or riding in a car, or other vehicle.
It was developed by an indie iOS development company called Duo-Pisces, founded by Christine Wang in the Finger Lake region of New York. It works in the air, on water and on land. Mountain climbing, hiking, crawling or literally any other movement. It’s got a clean, user-friendly design and it’s very easy to use. It’s also got a few cool features and tons of potential uses. We’ll talk about a few of them here.
- Business travel
One of the great features about Trip Tracker GPS is that you can export all of your trip data into an excel file. That makes it perfect for business travelers who need to keep track of mileage and expenses for reimbursement. Instead of keeping a log book or trying to remember (or guess) how far it was from points A, B, C and D, you can simply export the data before your expenses are due and get on with your life.
- Fitness and training
True, there are other devices out there that will track your steps, or whatever, but the beauty of the Trip Tracker GPS is that functionality is integrated, so you’re not wearing extra devices or running extra apps. Also, by keeping track of your routes, you can keep challenging yourself to push harder. Or, if you find a route that you really like, you can access it again without having to remember or write down the directions.
- Memory books, journals and other records for posterity
If you’ve done much traveling, you probably have experienced trip overload, where all of the sights and sounds and smells of a place run together. Were you at the Cologne Cathedral or Notre Dame? Was that King Louis’ palace or someone else’s? Where was that gorgeous walk you took through the old city and how can you tell your friend who is traveling there next fall? Trip Tracker GPS provides perfect documentation!
- Scavenger hunts
A map of the best trick-or-treating routes. A map leading to your secret lair. A map that traces your path as you jump over fences, climb under tables, run around the yard and, basically, up, over, in, around and through every square inch of the house. The possibilities are literally endless!
- Finding your way back home
For those of us who are geographically inclined, possibly the greatest use for the Trip Tracker GPS is to make sure we get back to the place that we started from. No more fear of going off the beaten path; no more wondering where your hotel wandered off to when you’re traveling in a new place. No more wondering which street it was, exactly, that took you past that cute little pet spa or micro distillery. It’s all right there at your fingertips. So go on, get lost! And then find your way back again.
