To use the contraction button you would need to press the start button, the moment you feel a sensation of tightness. This can be felt from inside or the hand on your belly as well. It would amplify the starting of a single contraction. The moments you feel relaxation of uterus press the stop button. The contractions need to be repeated so as to check the intervals of occurring. It is suggested that you need to figure out somewhere between 6 to 8 readings so that the duration along with the frequency of the contractions is determined.

But the real challenge lies in figuring out the true contractions from the false ones. They are the ones that being at the back and then spread towards the abdomen. The false ones only take place in the belly and hardening is just part of the belly. At a moment you will get 5 to 6 contractions and they are going to disappear as well. The true ones get stronger and increase in frequency with the passage of time. The bottom line is that the false contractions prepare the body for the hard work that is going to lie ahead. They are short, irregular and not that painful. They take place in the 5th or 7th month of delivery and fade away with the passage of time.

If the contraction timing is within 3 to 4 minutes apart and this does not increase even after lying on the side it would point to labour. It means that you would need to get into a hospital or consult a gynaecologist. The doctor has to be given details of the contractions, and whether they are coming together or longer after a certain period of time. The key to counting would be not to start in between. Wait till one contraction is over to start over with the next.

It is suggested that you try to time a few contractions. Do count from one and wait till the end of the next contraction. At the same time you need to be aware about preterm contractions. If regular contractions are common, it could lead to a lot of cervical changes long before pregnancy. It goes by the name of preterm contractions. If changes in the cervix are found it could lead to dilation and this would mean preterm labour. You need to be aware about the terms before you go ahead.
